U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th) has been tapped as a new co-chair of the Congressional Mental Health Caucus.

He will share the chairmanship with U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas (D-Ore.) and with U.S. Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.), who founded the caucus approximately two decades ago.“The ongoing mental-health crisis affects all of us – our families, our friends and our neighbors – irrespective of age, background, or profession,” Beyer said, “and there is more we can do in Congress to address this crisis. Everyone deserves access to quality mental-health care and the support they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.”

The Congressional Mental Health Caucus currently has approximately 110 members spanning both political parties. In addition to Beyer, members from Virginia include Democrats Gerald Connolly, and and Jennifer Wexton and Republicans Jen Kiggans and Rob Wittman.

“I look forward to our continued work to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, raise the visibility for mental-health reforms and find solutions to improve mental-health care and delivery of services to all in need,” the caucus founder, Rep. Napolitano, said.
