Police: Tip-jar thief targets two businesses before arrest

Incidents occurred in 3300 block of Wilson Blvd. in Ballston area

On Feb. 10 at 2:32 a.m., a man entered a business in the 3300 block of Wilson Boulevard in Arlington's Ballston area and allegedly stole money from a tip jar, Arlington police said.

An employee confronted the suspect, during which the suspect made threatening statements before leaving the scene.

The suspect then entered a nearby business and stole money from a tip jar before fleeing, police said.

Responding officers located the suspect – 25-year-old Dawit Hailu Mitiku of no fixed address – who was arrested, charged with robbery and petty larceny, and was held without bond.
