Police: Officer is OK after suspect attempts to run him down

On June 8 at 5 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of North Wakefield Street for a report of loud music emanating from a vehicle, Arlington police said.

Upon arrival, the officer observed a parked, occupied vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, police said. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the suspect began to drive away, striking the officer with the vehicle.

The officer did not report any injuries, police said.

The suspect then struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle as he fled the scene, police said.

A perimeter was established and responding officers conducted a search of the area for the suspect. The suspect was subsequently located inside a home in the 2000 block of North Culpeper Street and was taken into custody.

The suspect – 23-year-old Taron Butler, 23 of Arlington – was arrested and charged with malicious wounding on police, eluding police and hit-and-run.
