No bond for boxcutter-wielding suspect in Crystal City incident

On May 7 at 3:11 p.m., two men were walking in the area of 18th Street South at South Bell Street when a man approached, brandished a boxcutter and attempted to steal a bag from one of them, Arlington police said.

The second individual confronted the suspect, during which has was threatened with the boxcutter before the suspect fled the scene on foot, police said.

A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area, police said.

The suspect was non-compliant but, with the assistance of additional responding officers, he was taken into custody, police said. While in custody, the suspect kicked one officer and spat on another, police said.

During the course of the investigation, a boxcutter was recovered.

The suspect – 44-year-old Oi Young of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with assault on police (two counts), attempted malicious wounding, attempted robbery and obstruction of justice. He was held without bond.
