Arlington County government 55+ programs are held indoors at 55+ Centers unless otherwise noted. A membership (starting at $20 annually) is required to participate.

• A Latin dance party to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month will be presented on Friday, Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. Led by specialty programmer Edson Bravo, the event will cover the basics of salsa, merengue, cambia and bachata. [Registration #911899-08]

• Suba Saty, a community ambassador for AARP, will discuss the six pillars of a brain-healthy lifestyle during online program on Monday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. [Registration #911500-03]

• The 55+ Travel group will experience a heritage railroad ride through the picturesque Allegheny Mountains in Maryland, and explore Frostburg, on Monday, Sept. 30. The cost of $186 for Arlington residents and $214 for others includes lunch.

Appalachian Trail stories told by hiker and Arlington resident Tom Curtis will be presented on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. [Registration #911400-34 for in-person participation, #911400-35 for online]

• Gretchen Reinemeyer, Arlington’s director of elections, will discuss the upcoming election, including the switch to ranked-choice voting for the County Board race, on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. [Registration #911400-14]

• A celebration of the traditional Latin American folk art Retablo, with a focus on its history and techniques, will be presented by a community-arts programmer on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at Lubber Run 55+ Center. Supplies are provided. [Registration #911303-09]

• Community-arts programmer Jennifer Droblyen will discuss how to identify authentic antiques and art pieces on Friday, Oct. 4 in an online program. Participants can e-mail a photo of an item to [email protected] prior to the program, and Droblyen will research it. [Registration #911302-06]
