Her lone opponent in 2nd District dropped out several weeks ago

Adele McClure is headed to the general election and, likely, into the General Assembly.

The first-time candidate was leading handily in the 2nd District House of Delegates’ Democratic primary, which wasn’t a surprise as her lone opponent – Kevin Saucedo-Broach – pulled out of the race several weeks ago.

The 2nd House District includes Clarendon, Courthouse, Rosslyn and Crystal City, among other areas.  It appears that tonight’s filing deadline will have come and gone with no general-election opposition having materialized.

Like all 40 state Senate and 100 House of Delegates seats, those centered on Arlington were reconfigured and renumbered as part of legislative redistricting after the 2020 federal census. While Arlington previously had included parts or all of the 45th, 47th, 48th and 49th House districts, it now will be home to the 1st (occupied by incumbent Patrick Hope), 3rd (Alfonso Lopez) and the second.

Neither Lopez nor Hope had intra-party challenges this year and moved directly to the general election.
