Marymount's 'Portfolio in Motion' celebrates student creativity

Annual fashion show centered around the theme 'Soirée' for 2024

Models sported everything from athletic wear and elegant dresses to hooded apparel and bridal wear April 25 at Marymount University’s annual “Portfolio in Motion” fashion show.

The event, and a second show the following evening, took place in the Rose Benté Lee Center and showcased creations by students in the university’s Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandise & Marketing, Graphic and Media Design, and Interior Architecture + Design programs.

This year’s show, which centered around the theme of “Soirée,” dispensed with the usual raised walkway and instead had the models parade around a U-shaped path with dining tables in the center and audience members seated on the perimeter.

The event honored Peter Langner as Designer of the Year. The German-born, Paris-educated designer worked for Christian Dior, Emanuel Ungaro, Guy LaRoche and Christian Lacroix before establishing his own self-titled brand in 1991.

Models for the show were Joseph Rosas, Isabelle Diatta, Khalia Thomas, Camila Perdomo, Jamaya Morgan, Harper Wolf, Ella Shardt, Sofia Jubraj, Ken Saunders, Alex Sechser, Michelle Olivar, Maia Fisher, Elliot Salguero, Bridgitte Callahan, De’Jane Sorrell, Madalyn Ruth, Shristi Ghimire, Kaylyn Sturgis, Bella Rivera, Christian Denormandie, De’Rayanna Inman, Sara Argueta-Valle, Lucciana Barrientos, Bri Alma, Tynaysha Barnes and Ryelle Jenifer.

As she has on some occasions in the past, Marymount president Irma Becerra also walked the circuit while modeling an outfit.

This year’s featured designers were freshmen Amarie Butler, Ashley Zamora, Bianca Guardaddo, Bria Fisher, Jacqueline Ocon, Jerae Beckwith, Ester Lee and Logan Voigt; sophomores Tirayan Robinson, Cara Pocono and Meccah Burch; juniors Caroline MacDonald, Roy Davis, Thomas Le and Hazel Villabranco; senior Yotwarit (Best) Kornwoodtikun; and alumni Victoria Onuigbo, Mina Hamoduh, Deonae Carter Beale, Alondra Alvarez, Brian Rivera and Erykah Hatch.

Officials also bestowed the following awards:

• Portfolio in Motion Award: Annie Pacious.

• Sister Gabrielle Berg Award: Lydia Thomas and Cameren Golden.

• NAMSBE Excellence in Menswear Award: Caroline MacDonald.

• Stand-Out Performance in Fashion Merchandising Award: Johanna Ramirez-Juan.
