Get ready: Next week could be a humid scorcher across local area

Temperatures are likely to top out around 90 on Monday, then cool slightly

Have you had your air-conditioning system checked? Because you're probably going to need it in coming days.

AccuWeather, the official weather partner of the GazetteLeader, is forecasting a high of 90 degrees (and humid!) on Monday in the Northern Virginia area. Tuesday will bring a high of about 87 with "a couple of afternoon showers and a thunderstorm; gusty winds and small hail can accompany any thunderstorm."

Wednesday is forecast to be in the mid-80s but with less stormy drama.

The good news for those not ready for scorching temperatures? The evenings are likely to be nice, with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s across much of the region.

But Monday's 90-degree day is a reminder that summer is on the way, and this past winter's snows are almost assuredly in the record books.
