The General Assembly has paid tribute to two Arlington civic leaders, one of whom died in 2022 and the other in 2023.

Cragg Hines, who died in December, was saluted for his 35-year career in journalism, support of the LGBT and senior communities, and political activities with the Arlington County Democratic Committee, 8th District Democratic Committee and Democratic State Central Committee.

“He was a trusted mentor and friend” who will “be fondly remembered and missed,” noted the resolution, patroned by state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria-Arlington).

The General Assembly also lauded Brian Hannigan, a community leader in Arlington who provided services to Democratic presidents, worked with the Democratic National Committee and served as a public-affairs professional.

Hannigan also was active locally, serving as president of the Dominion Hills Civic Association for 20 years and in leadership posts with the Better Sports Club of Arlington, Arlington Sports Commission and the effort to lure a Major League baseball team to the Washington area.

Hannigan, who died in May 2022, was “a champion for young people – going above and beyond to ensure that children had opportunities to participate in local programs,” noted the measure, patroned by Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington).

Each resolution passed unanimously, as is typical of memorial measures in the General Assembly.
