Former W-L girls basketball coach arrested for carnal knowledge

Police alleged incidents occurred when George Porcha led team in early 2000s

A former girls basketball coach at Washington-Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School has been arrested and charged with sexually-based offenses that police allege occurred between 2000 and 2003.

George Porcha, 53, of Winterville, N.C., is charged with carnal knowledge of a minor and taking indecent liberties with children.

In October 2022, police initiated a comprehensive investigation after receiving information about possible offenses involving minors by Mr. Porcha that occurred between when he was a girls basketball coach at the high school, Arlington police said.

As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued this month for offenses involving two female victims who were juveniles and students at the high school at the time of the incidents, police said.

This remains an active criminal investigation, police said.
