Feb. 1 fire-training exercise could get noisy in Shirlington

Helicopters will be part of events that begin at 8 a.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, the Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) will host a joint training exercise in the 2800 block of South Taylor St. This training exercise is part of ACFD's ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest levels of safety and security for the community.

One of the key components of this exercise will be a mobility drill involving the landing of two helicopters in the area of the Arlington County Fire Training Academy.

The drill is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, and the entire operation is expected to last no more than 15-20 minutes. The purpose of this drill is to enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure personnel are fully prepared to deal with a wide range of scenarios.

During this exercise, it is important to note that there will be temporary interruptions to the normal flow of traffic in the Arlington County Trades Center -- S. Taylor Street in the area of the Trades Center will be closed during this exercise and the Arlington County Police Department will be assisting with traffic control.
