MALICIOUS WOUNDING:
• On Aug. 25 at 12:48 a.m., a man was walking in the 4100 block of 3rd Road North when a male suspect approached and demanded his personal belongings, Arlington police said.
When the victim refused, the suspect brandished a knife and assaulted the victim, resulting in a laceration. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, police said.
The victim received injuries described as non-life-threatening and declined medical attention, police said.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic male, 35 to 40 years old, with dark hair.
• On Aug. 29 at 4:29 a.m., a woman and man known to one another were inside a home in the 2000 block of North Adams Street when a verbal dispute escalated, Arlington police said.
The man brandished a firearm and struck the victim with it, resulting in a laceration, police said. The suspect then discharged the firearm inside the residence, striking a wall.
The victim subsequently exited the home and called for help, police said. The victim sustained injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening and was transported to an area hospital.
Responding officers established a perimeter and conducted a search of the residence for the suspect, yielding negative results.
During the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect and obtained warrants for malicious wounding, missile into an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.
ATTEMPTED CARJACKING:
• On Aug. 24 at 11:17 p.m., a man was in his parked vehicle in the 400 block of North Thomas Street when he observed a man approach, brandish a firearm and demand the vehicle, Arlington police said.
The victim honked his horn, and the suspect subsequently fled the scene on foot, police said. No injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as a short, heavy-set Hispanic male wearing a blue shirt and brown shorts.
MANUFACTURE/USE OF EXPLOSIVES:
• A 77-year-old Arlington man faces multiple charges in connection with the use of explosive materials following investigation into a series of noise complaints in the 5700 block of Washington Boulevard, the Arlington County Office of the Fire Marshal said.
Beginning on Aug. 20, the Office of the Fire Marshal began an investigation into a series of loud noises that were reported by residents throughout Bluemont along the Custis Trail, officials said.
Through the investigation, fire marshals identified Charles Peters as a person of interest. In conjunction with local and federal partners, the Office of the Fire Marshal executed a search warrant on the morning of Aug. 30, leading to the arrest of the 77-year-old Peters.
The suspect was charged with five counts of manufacturing/possession/use of firebombs or explosive materials or devices. He was held without bond.
ROBBERY:
• On Aug. 25 at 2:33 p.m., two men entered a business, began concealing merchandise and attempted to exit the business without payment, Arlington police said.
An employee confronted the suspects outside the store, during which time one suspect lunged at the employee before both suspects fled the scene, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The suspects are described as black males.
• On Aug. 25 at 6:17 p.m., a man entered a business and allegedly began tampering with merchandise, Arlington police said.
During the incident, an employee confronted him, police said. The suspect then attempted to exit the store with the merchandise without payment, during which the employee confronted the suspect again, police said.
The suspect allegedly made threatening statements toward the employee before exiting the store, police said.
No injuries were reported.
A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area and took him into custody.
The suspect – 26-year-old Alusine Tiafoh of Greenbelt – was arrested, charged with robbery and held without bond.
• On Aug. 25 at 2:33 p.m., two men entered a business, began concealing merchandise and attempted to exit the business without payment, Arlington police said.
An employee confronted the suspects outside the store, during which time one suspect lunged at the employee before both suspects fled the scene, police said.

• On Aug. 27 at 6:11 p.m., a woman entered a business in the 1200 block of South Hayes Street and allegedly collected merchandise and exited without payment, Arlington police said.
Loss-prevention personnel confronted the suspect outside the business and, while attempting to detain her, the suspect struck the personnel, police said.
A struggle ensued, during which a responding officer arrived. During the interaction, the suspect was noncompliant and attempted to flee the scene, police said.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody, police said. No injuries were reported.
The suspect – 18-year-old Zaira Lowe of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with robbery and obstruction of justice.
• On Aug. 28 at 3:51 p.m., a man was inside a parking garage in the 1100 block of South Hayes Street when a male suspect approached and demanded his jewelry, Arlington police said.
When the victim refused, the suspect brandished a firearm and stole the victim’s jewelry before leaving the scene on foot, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as a black male, 18-21 years of age, 6’2”, 170 pounds with a short Afro-style haircut and a blue face covering.
• On Aug. 28 at 10:45 p.m., two women were in their parked vehicles in the 4100 block of South Four Mile Run Drive when a man approached, Arlington police said.
The suspect brandished a firearm at the first victim and stole cash, police said. He then approached the second victim, again brandished a weapon and demanded money, but the victim yelled and the suspect fled the scene on foot, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as a black male, in his 30s, 5”10 or 5’11”, 170 pounds, with a muscular build, short hair and facial hair.
On Aug. 29 at 6:11 p.m., a man entered a business in the 4300 block of Wilson Boulevard, began yelling at an employee and then entered a back area and allegedly began stealing food, Arlington police said.
The employee attempted to recover the food items and a struggle ensued, during which the suspect struck the employee before fleeing the scene on foot, police said. The employee sustained injuries described as minor and did not require medical attention.
A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect inside a nearby business and took him into custody.
The suspect – 29-year-old Orlando Mullins of Clinton, Md. – was arrested and charged with robbery. He was held without bond.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING:
• On Aug. 25 at 10 p.m., a rock was thrown through the window of a home in the 2100 block of Key Boulevard, causing it to shatter, Arlington police said.
The preliminary investigation indicates a dispute between the victim and a known individual preceded the incident, police said.
PEEPING:
• On Aug. 23 at 5:44 a.m., a woman was inside her home in the 4300 block of 2nd Road North when she observed a man allegedly looking in a window, Arlington police said.
The victim called police and responding officers located a person matching the suspect’s description in the area and took him into custody.
The suspect – 19-year-old Denis Chen De Leon of Arlington – was arrested and charged with peeping and public intoxication.
BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:
• Sometime between Aug. 20 at noon and Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m., an individual or individuals attempted to enter a home in the 800 block of South Frederick Street, but were unsuccessful.
• On Aug. 26 at 3:12 a.m., a woman was inside her home in the 300 block of North Glebe Road when she heard a noise, Arlington police said.
Upon further investigation, the victim observed two male suspects, one known to her, attempting to gain entry to the home, police said. The suspects then fled.
STOLEN VEHICLE:
• On Aug. 29, Arlington police reported that, a day before, a black 2019 Ford Ranger with Virginia plates was reported stolen from the 1000 block of South Dinwiddie Street.
STOLEN-VEHICLE RATE DROPS BELOW ONE PER DAY:
• Slightly less than an average one vehicle per day was stolen across Arlington in July, according to new police data.
The Arlington County Police Department reported that, for the month, there had been 29 stolen-vehicle reports. That’s down from 43 in 2023 and 36 in 2022.
Arlington police have been focusing on education and enforcement in attempting to stem what has been a spike in vehicle thefts in recent years, particularly in urban areas of the county.
ARLINGTON CRIME COUNT DOWN FROM YEAR AGO IN JULY:
• Arlington’s major-crime count for July was down from both a year and two years before, according to new police data.
A total of 816 “Group A” offenses were recorded for the month, according to new data from the Arlington County Police Department.
That compares to 957 such offenses in 2023 and 853 in 2022.
Group A offenses include everything from murder to larceny, and are a standard reporting metric of public-safety agencies across the nation.
