SHOTS FIRED:

• On Jan. 19 at 11:57 a.m., a resident of the 3600 block of 25th Street South contacted police to report that, approximately 25 minutes earlier, she heard what sounded like multiple shots in the area, Arlington police said.

Officers recovered evidence confirming several shots had been fired, and witnesses observed a vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed, police said.

No victims or property damage were reported, and no suspect description is available.

ASSAULT BY MOB:

• On Jan. 24 at 10:39 p.m., a man was driving in the 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard when he became involved in a verbal dispute with two men on foot, Arlington police said.

The pedestrians began banging on the victim’s vehicle, causing property damage, and assaulted the driver through his open window, police said.

Responding officers observed both suspects run from the scene. They were taken into custody following foot pursuits.

The victim and one suspect suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention, police said.

One suspect – 29-year-old Leonardo Guardado Navarro of Arlington – was arrested and charged with assault by mob, destruction of property, public intoxication and obstruction of justice. The second suspect – 20-year-old Adonis Johnson of Arlington – was arrested and charged with assault by mob, destruction of property and public intoxication.

ATTEMPTED CARJACKING:

• On Jan. 27 at 5:39 p.m., a woman was outside her parked vehicle in the 500 block of 12th Street South when she was approached by several men who demanded her property, Arlington police said.

The victim ran from the scene and sought assistance; no items were reported stolen in the incident.

Approximately 10 minutes later, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Eads Street for a report of another woman who had been walking in the area when she was approached by several men, police said. One of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm, during which the victim threw her phone at them. The suspects picked up her phone and fled the scene.

Responding officers located six suspects – all juveniles – attempting to entro the Metro system. The victim’s phone and a BB gun were recovered from the suspects.

Petitions for the suspects were obtained for a variety of crimes, including attempted carjacking, robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony and use/display of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

ROBBERY:

• On Jan. 19 at 4 a.m., two women were in the 5500 block of Columbia Pike when they were approached by a man who brandished a knife and stole cash from one of them, Arlington police said.

The suspect also attempted to steal the victims’ phones, but they were able to run away. No injuries were reported.

The incident was reported to police a day later; there is no suspect description.

• On Jan. 20 at 11:31 a.m., a man was inside a business in the 2300 block of Wilson Boulevard when he approached the counter and displayed a firearm, Arlington police said.

The suspect went behind the counter and stole merchandise before demanding cash from the register, then fled on foot, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a black male, 35 to 50 years old, 5’7 to 5’11”, wearing a white mask.

• On Jan. 20 at 2 p.m., two women entered a business in the 1000 block of North Fillmore Street and collected merchandise before one of them made threatening statements toward an employee, Arlington police said.

The suspects then left the store and fled in a black sedan, police said.

Approximately a half-hour later, officers observed a vehicle meeting the description traveling in the 2900 block of South Glebe Road and attempted a traffic stop, during which the driver refused to stop, police said.

Officers then initiated a vehicle pursuit and took the suspects into custody after their vehicle experienced a flat tire and came to a stop on northbound Interstate 395 in the vicinity of Washington Boulevard.

One civilian vehicle and two police cruisers sustained minor damage during the incident, but there were no injuries beyond a minor injury to one of the suspects.

The first suspect – 23-year-old Jamira Hampton of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with robbery and eluding. The second suspect – 22-year-old Taniya Bradford of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with petty larceny.

• On Jan. 21 at 6:45 p.m., three juvenile males were in the 1100 block of South Hayes Street when they were approached by a man who threatened them and demanded their property, Arlington police said.

The suspect stole one victim’s hoodie before leaving the scene with four other young men, police said. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a black male, 17 to 21 years old, 5’10” with a thin build, mid-length dreadlocks and facial hair.

• On Jan. 23 at 9:36 p.m., a man entered a business in the 200 block of North Glebe Road, selected a case of alcoholic beverages and left the store without payment, Arlington police said.

An employee followed him outside and called police. The suspect then threw the beverage at the employee before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7”, wearing a black mask.

GRAND LARCENY AUTO:

• On Jan. 24 at 5:01 p.m., an officer on patrol at South Courthouse Road and 12th Street South observed a parked, unoccupied vehicle that was determined to have been stolen, Arlington police said.

Three individuals returned to the vehicle; two women were detained, but a man attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody, police said.

The male suspect was wearing body armor, police said. During the course of the investigation, officers also recovered firearms, pepper spray and a suspected controlled substance.

The suspect – Bruce Hill Jr. of Manassas – was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon (three counts), grand larceny/motor vehicle theft, receiving a stolen firearm, wearing body armor while committing a crime, carrying a concealed weapon (two counts) and obstruction of justice.

BRANDISHING:

• On Jan. 24 at 12:33 a.m., a woman was walking in the area of North Quinn Street at 18th Street North when a black SUV pulled up next to her, Arlington police said.

The driver of the vehicle began yelling at her, parked his vehicle, exited and approached the victim while making threatening statements, police said.

The suspect subsequently brandished a firearm at the victim before re-entering the vehicle and attempting to reverse into the victim, police said. The victim was able to move to avoid being struck, and the suspect fled the scene, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 40s, 6 feet tall or 6’1”, with a thin build and facial hair.

INDECENT EXPOSURE:

• On Jan. 12 at 8:35 a.m., a woman was walking in the area of the 1600 block of South George Mason Drive when she observed a man expose himself, Arlington police said.

The incident was reported to police online on Jan. 19. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:

• On Jan. 23 between 9:30 and 10 a.m., witnesses observed two men exit a vacant residence in the 4900 block of Columbia Pike and leave the scene, Arlington police said.

Officers located signs of forced entry into the unit and, while on scene, they observed one of the suspects in the area, police said. The suspect fled from officers and was initially not located.

A perimeter was established and an Arlington County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the suspect inside a residential building in the area and took him into custody without incident, police said.

That suspect – 25-year-old Eduardo Guzman of Arlington – was arrested and charged with unlawful entry. The second suspect is described as an Hispanic male wearing a gray jacket, blue jeans and a purple hat.

STOLEN VEHICLE:

• Arlington police on Jan. 24 reported two stolen vehicles:

> A white 2017 Dodge Journey with Virginia tags was stolen Jan. 23 from the 2800 block of 9th Street South.

> A red 2020 Kia Sportage was stolen Jan. 23 from the 1300 block of South Joyce Street.

FORMER W-L COACH FACES CARNAL-KNOWLEDGE CHARGES:

• A former girls basketball coach at Washington-Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School has been arrested and charged with sexually-based offenses that police allege occurred between 2000 and 2003.

George Porcha, 53, of Winterville, N.C., is charged with carnal knowledge of a minor and taking indecent liberties with children.

In October 2022, police initiated a comprehensive investigation after receiving information about possible offenses involving minors by Mr. Porcha that occurred between when he was a girls basketball coach at the high school, Arlington police said.

As a result of the investigation, warrants were issued this month for offenses involving two female victims who were juveniles and students at the high school at the time of the incidents, police said.

This remains an active criminal investigation, police said.
