Arlington school officials on Feb. 16 reported expecting a net $17.7 million surplus when all is said and done with the fiscal year that ends June 30.

The school system has benefited from increases in state and federal funding, coupled with expenditures below anticipated levels, School Board members were informed.

In the report, it was recommended that the extra funding be used to replenish reserve funds rather than necessarily be used for existing purposes. The issue will next be revisited in June.
