Arlington School Board members on June 8 approved a contract to finish up an ongoing analysis of existing facilities in preparation for future renovation.

“This is something we have been anticipating for a while. I’m looking forward to it,” said School Board member David Priddy.

The second-stage contract of $832,273 will go to Arlington-based MTFA Architecture, which in coming months will develop an analysis that focuses on the conditions of:

• 25 elementary schools.

• Six middle schools.

• Six high schools and high-school programs.

• Additional facilities that include the David M. Brown Planetarium and the Syphax building, where school-system administrative offices are located.

The architectural firm will be tasked with continuing site visits to buildings during the summer, submitting a draft report by the end of August and a final report at the end of September.

Information in the report will provide background for Superintendent Francisco Dúran and School Board members as they plan for capital improvements running from 2025 to 2034.
