The Animal Welfare League of Arlington has slated its 80th-anniversary celebration for Thursday, June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington.

The event will feature a live disc jockey, open bar, silent auction and custom pet portraits.

Tickets are $128 general admission, $180 for VIP admission.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington was founded by volunteers in 1944; five years later, it contracted to operate as the county’s animal shelter. In 1983, the organization assumed animal-control responsibilities from the Arlington County Police Department, and in 2012 hired its first full-time veterinarian to oversee care of shelter pets.

In the fiscal year ending in June 2023, the organization had a 96-percent positive-outcome rate for dogs, 97 percent for cats and 98 percent for small companion animals.
