On May 20 at 12:29 a.m., an officer observed a parked, occupied vehicle displaying stolen tags in a parking lot in the 5500 block of Columbia Pike, Arlington police said.

With the assistance of additional responding officers, a vehicle stop was conducted, during which the suspect reversed his vehicle into an officer’s cruiser and hit a fence and parked car while attempting to flee the scene, police said.

The suspect subsequently exited the vehicle and was non-complaint with officers' commands before he was taken into custody, police said.

While in custody, the suspect provided false personal identifying information to officers, and upon accurately identifying the suspect, it was determined he was wanted out of other jurisdictions, police said.

During the course of the investigation, suspected narcotics were recovered from the suspect vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen out of Fairfax County, police said.

The suspect – 25-year-old Ahmed Abuelhassan of Fairfax – was arrested and charged with assault on police, unauthorized use of a vehicle, destruction of property (two counts), possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (two counts), possession of Schedule I/II narcotics (two counts) and identity theft. He was held without bond.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
