Year-over-year home sales across Northern Virginia’s five major jurisdictions were up significantly in July, according to new data.

The 2,623 sales in the five localities represented a 14.4 percent increase compared to 2,292 transactions in July 2023, according to a GazetteLeader analysis of data from Bright MLS, the region’s multiple-listing service.

Year-over-year sales were up in all five jurisdictions, albeit by varying degrees:

• Sales in Fairfax County totaled 1,220 in July 2024, up 17.2 percent from a year before.

• Sales in Prince William County stood at 522, up 10.4 percent.

• Transactions in Loudoun County totaled 502, up 22.4 percent.

• Sales in Arlington came in at 196, up 3.7 percent.

• Homes going to closing in Alexandria totaled 183, up 2.2 percent.

For the entirety of the Mid-Atlantic region covered by Bright MLS, the sales total of 21,162 for the month was up 11.8 percent from a year before.

Figures represent most, but not all, homes on the market. July 2024 figures are preliminary and subject to revision.
