Home sales across Northern Virginia’s give major localities in February effectively were flat from a year before, as inventory issues continue to dissuade some sellers from putting their properties on the market.

A total of 1,582 properties went to closing in February in the Big Five of Northern Virginia real estate: Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun and Arlington counties and the city of Falls Church.

That’s according to figures from MarketStats by ShowingTime, as analyzed by the GazetteLeader, and represented a increase of 0.9 percent from the 1,568 transactions recorded in February 2023.

Fairfax County saw essentially no change in sales for the month (693 vs. 694 a year before), as did Prince William County (321 vs. 323). Loudoun County posted a decline from 274 to 264, while Arlington sales were up from 139 to 161 and Alexandria transactions rose from 138 to 143.

For the Mid-Atlantic region as a whole, home sales were up 0.5 percent year-over-year to 13,334.

Figures represent most, but not all, homes on the market. Most recent figures are preliminary and are subject to revision.
