The combination of prospective buyers ready to act and slightly more inventory on the local home-sales market gave the weekly number of home-showings across the region a bump up in new data.

The total number of home showings for the week ending March 10 across the Washington region stood at 25,051, according to figures reported March 11 by Bright MLS, the region’s multiple-listing service.

While down 14.6 percent from a year before, the total was up 5.4 percent from a week prior, suggesting the shift from winter market to spring has taken root.

Figures represent market activity in the District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church in Virginia;  and Montgomery, Prince George’s and Frederick counties in Maryland.

In the local area, market activity followed the same pattern – up week-over-week but down year-over-year:

• In Fairfax County, showings for the week stood at 6,165. That’s up from 6,008 a week before but down from 7,493 a year ago.

• In Arlington, the 1,095 showings represented an increase from 906 a week before but a decline from 1,239 a year ago.

For the week across the region, a total of 1,372 homes came to market (up 3.5% week-over-week and up 2% year-over-year) at a median listing price of $629,995 (up 2.4% and 8.6%, respectively).

Sales contracts for the week stood at 1,343, up 9.3 percent from the week prior but down 6.2 percent from a year before.

Figures represent most, but not all, homes on the market. Most recent figures are preliminary and are subject to revision.
