October home-buyers across the largest jurisdictions of the Washington metropolitan area were shelling out more, generally, for each square foot compared to those who purchased homes a year before.
That’s according to figures reported Nov. 10 by Bright MLS as analyzed by the GazetteLeader.
Seven of the nine major jurisdictions posted year-over-year increases in average per-square-foot costs, with the dollar amount led by the District of Columbia at $541, up 4.6 percent from $517.
Arlington led all suburban jurisdictions, with its average rate of $490 per square foot up 5.2 percent from $466.
Rounding out the top five were three more Virginia localities: Alexandria ($465, down 2.5% from $477), Falls Church ($446, down 2% from $455) and Fairfax County ($347, up 6.1% from $327).
Montgomery County was up 3.8 percent from $291 to $302, while Loudoun County was up 9.6 percent from $260 to $285. At the bottom of the pack were Prince George’s County ($246, up 2.9% from $239) and Prince William County ($238, up 7.7% from $221).
October’s per-square-foot figures were running ahead of the year-to-date figures in all localities but the Maryland jurisdictions.
For Bright MLS’s Mid-Atlantic coverage footprint as a whole, the average per-square-foot sales price of $238 in October was up 6.3 percent from $224 a year before.
